Wren

Basic Character Information

Starting Bonus: Pocket Change | [Starting Bonus Roll]

First Name: Wren
Middle Name/Initial: Abigail
Last Name: Blackbell
Epithet: Fluffy-Fluffy Fawn (Wren: "Whyyyyy?? Q-Q")
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Race: Tontatta
Faction: Pirate
Profession:
Hell's Kitchen: Wren has never been particularly talented in the art of cooking. In fact, calling her a failure would be putting it lightly and the only reason this is even worth mentioning is the fact that her cooking is just that horrifying. The only dish that seems to exist in her repertoire is a black sludge disaster that appears to have gained a soul through the “cooking” process. A dreadful dish better known as “Wren’s Hell”, it has a better chance passing as an infernal minion of the young tontatta’s rather than a delicacy best served with black tea. With the dish’s capacity to do more than just wriggle about on the plate and actually manoeuvre in likeness of acrobatics, “Wren’s Hell” is truly a frightening entity. However, one might be surprised to find the taste of this alien-like sludge to be genuinely pleasant and there is literally nothing else like it in the world. The secret lies in Wren’s knowledgable use of spices, injection of questionable fluids and despite all appearances, her incredibly unique cuisine is certainly bound to leave a lifelong impression!

Natural Wonder: Of the many tontatta families occupying the Tontatta Tribe, the Blackbell clan specialises in agriculture. As such, Wren grew up with nature and wildlife as her strongest passions. It is through her vast knowledge of various plants that she is capable of making her food so edible and she even has reasonable knowledge surrounding areas of pharmacy and botany. Despite Wren’s disastrous excuse for cooking, she finds much more success in brewing teas and some soups, especially when she harvests and prepares her own ingredients. Wren also prefers the outdoors and though this is largely owing to the fact that her clan generally sleeps out in the open (only finding cover in nearby bush when it rains), it is since the acquisition of her devil fruit that she has found it nearly unbearable to stay indoors for too long. Wren's affinity with the outdoors has led her to become proficient in the signs and sounds of nature and she always possesses a firm grasp of her surroundings based purely from her reading of the air around her. Furthermore, she enjoys turning her eyes the skies and can spends hours upon hours gazing at passing clouds or twinkling stars.

The Self-Taught Scientist: Part of Wren’s inability to make aesthetically pleasing food is owing to her mad infatuation with mixing different ingredients and components to observe the reaction they will make. Despite all sweet appearances, the young tontatta will always find ways to formulate new and unique recipes of disaster (not always related to food, but often enough to be worried about her taking over the kitchen), all of which are rarely safe in the hands of someone without the necessary qualifications to be handling dangerous substances. Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop at chemical reactions and cooking catastrophes. Oh no, Wren must see how her experiments perform outside of her makeshift laboratory and will often be all too eager to demonstrate her creations to the nearest and unluckiest fellow. Additionally, Wren always mixes her chemicals in large cauldrons better fit for humans and so despite her grotesque interests, it’s always worth watching her clutching a massive wooden spoon and stirring the pot of fluorescent green goop.

Physical Appearance

Height: 9cm
Weight: like a sprinkle of sugar~

Hair Style: bob cut
Hair Color: silvery/white
Eye Color: hazel
Scars: she has many scratches all over her body from her adventures, but no lasting scars
Clothing and Accessories: Wren is always seen wearing the traditional garbs of her family and these often feature black and silver motifs with elaborate embroidery patterns. The Blackbell family possesses an enduring history with both nature and embroidery. All tontatta under the family will create their own embroidery pieces on fabrics including hand-made clothes, often gifting them to close friends and family members to express companionship and trust. Keeping this convention, Wren personally embroiders all her clothes and she especially enjoys purchasing a variety of fabrics (typically silk and cotton) to experiment with different dyes. Blackbell traditional apparel generally involves loose, flowy clothing in silk or cotton for comfort and mobility, and Wren's personal choice in clothing reflects this. She tends to be highly attentive in her fashion and enjoys coordinating her clothes to suit a particular theme or motif. Like many Blackbell tontatta, Wren's embroidery is largely influenced by nature such as animals, plants and mountains and her preferences are mostly inclined towards symbols related to the sea. Her clothes often feature sea kings, fish, coral, sea birds and islands. Currently, her favourite and most prized possession is a burgundy mini-dress with a flock of golden threaded gulls skirting the multi-coloured sea just above the hem and distant islands in a mixture of black, grey and brown threads in the background. However, since obtaining her devil fruit, Wren generally opts for unisex clothes such as loose tunics, blouses and breeches, all still delicately embroidered. Lastly, Wren frequently enjoys taking to the skies and dons mechanical fairy wings, which she additionally uses as her primary mode of transportation.

Description: It isn't appropriate to point a magnifying glass at a tontatta!
Upon first glance, Wren appears to be a fairly harmless girl with naturally round and rosy cheeks and this is greatly amplified by her small, tontatta stature. Despite her obvious strength as a tontatta capable of carrying out actions and lifting objects comparable to any average human, Wren lacks any definitive muscle tone. Instead, Wren is moderately plump in areas including her arms and thighs, even featuring curves around her hips. Furthermore, the most defining feature of her face includes her strangely dotted eyebrows, a characteristic prevalent and unique to her bloodline, and her large, doe-like eyes. Her eyes are generally very expressive of her emotions, however are additionally capable of influencing another individual's opinion to suit her personal wishes with a simple bat of her long lashes. The final defining feature of Wren is her massive grey squirrel tail with a single white stripe running down the middle. Its size and volume comparable to her own body, Wren often seeks warmth in the colder seasons by wrapping her tail tightly around herself. Since the acquisition of her devil fruit, Wren has lost significant control of the hormones in her body and her appearance changes sporadically each day. One day she might appear as she normally does—a cherubic tontatta girl—and on another day, she might appear as a towering male giant in her elderly years. Although Wren has enough control over her powers to transform back into her original body, the effort of doing so is often unmatched by its reward and she even seems amused by this quirk. Though startling at first, Wren came to enjoy waking up every morning to find herself in a different body. Only the colour of her hair, eyes and the presence of her tail are normally unchanged, and she still manages to retain a great deal of charm associated to her innate nature regardless of the body she occupies.

The Past

Likes:

  • Nature and wildlife
  • Interesting chemical reactions
  • Experimenting with new formulas
  • The new and mysterious
  • Ghost and horror stories (she prefers to listen to them rather than tell them herself)
  • She enjoys how big the world is for a tontatta
  • Flying and high places

  • Being forced to stay indoors and especially small spaces (though often anything with a roof is "too small" for her)
  • Being unable to swim ("But fishies" Q-Q)
  • She can't stay still for too long and will hate it if she's forced to
  • Also can't keep her mouth shut for too long and will likely explode if she's in a library or something

Hometown: Dressrosa, New World
Personality: Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice~
It is difficult to imagine Wren as anything but demure, sweet and shy, but one couldn't be further off base in making such an assumption. By nature, Wren possesses a reckless streak and she can become immensely difficult to deal with. Any attempts to contain her is generally impossible, especially given her capability to modify any dull situation into a glorious adventure as she fits. Furthermore, her wild imaginations are often the major driving forces behind her vast wealth of energy and she seeks amusement in creating elaborate, exaggerated and wildly untrue stories to pass time, sometimes in relation to both complete strangers and close companions. She additionally maintains a vast number of fascinating imaginary friends, whom she refers to simply as "reveries", and she most certainly talks to them. Her conversations with her mental manifestations can become incredibly animated and tend to cause problems for those around her as they regularly get the better of her reasonable judgement. But make no mistake, there is actually a brilliant mind amid all the chaos in her mind. Putting her inquisitive nature to good use, Wren has found unimaginable success in her fields of interest (with the exception of culinary arts) and is capable of drawing original and immensely intriguing theories with experiments to testify their validity. With her capability to easily grasp mathematical equations and chemical formulas, Wren's brain is sometimes even suspected of being programmed in binary and this holds especially true as despite her ingenuity in maths and sciences, her understanding for human behaviour is incredibly deficient and the result is she will often always move at her own fast pace without the consideration of others. Despite what is clearly an abnormality in her mind, Wren rarely shows signs of genuine distress, anger or negativity and instead appears to live in perfect harmony with her mind. She credits her genius and high intellect in the fields of science and chemistry to her reveries, stating that her findings could never come to light without their active collaborations. Her mind is quite brilliant, given that she is capable of producing high level formulas and developing new, innovative ideas and though these innovations often resemble frivolous rambles, those who take the time to read her work will find she is much more than what she seems.

Whether or not her reveries are simply childish fantasies or a serious disorder is yet to be clear, but one thing is for certain is that they are rarely harmful. Wren's love for risks and adventures are largely encouraged by her reveries, but they are hardly the instigators. If anything, Wren is known to disregard any warnings her reveries might give her, providing reason to believe that they are vastly more trustworthy than she could ever be. Her sporadic and abnormal behaviour leads her to possess very few "real" friends of her own, to the point of being nonexistent. The majority of her companions take form in animals and creatures due to the fact that she possesses a particular affinity with them. As such, she frequently socialises with birds and squirrels, rarely interacting with other "people". In fact, she has been known to be excluded from many festivities in her tribe, but for the most part, none of this seems to bother her. Wren possesses an absence of basic social understanding and rarely successfully interprets social cues, speech intonations and body language. As such, it would be reasonable to believe that she never understood her ostracisation to begin with. Wren can additionally be very gullible, a trait largely owing her lack of sense to distinguish between reality and fantasy, as the two can often become blurred. However, Wren possesses a genuine passion for nature and cares for those around her. She forms attachments incredibly fast, foregoing suspicion towards strangers and though she has the tendency to attach herself quickly to anyone who gives her the time, she rarely demonstrates anything similar to respect or loyalty until she feels it to be earnt.  Moreover, in Wren's eyes, materialism, wealth and status hold little value unless such aspects are put to good use. In many ways, her personal ideologies are incredibly childlike and naive, but that is simply how Wren interprets the world. Her lens are multi-coloured and she possesses an incredibly unique perspective of the world; one of fascination, fantasy and fortuity.
